Clayton's Action Research

· Goals and objectives/outcomes of the research investigation
The goals and objectives are: to determine if students in classrooms that are in rich in technology score higher on standardized test.
If those students grades are higher
if those students are in engaged in learning and if students in those classes have better attendance than students who are not.
· Activities designed to achieve the objectives

1. Will look at teachers who use technology in their classrooms as a part of 21st century learning.
2. Teachers who use power points
3. Wiki's in the classroom to support instruction
4. Stratified sampling

· Resources and research tools needed for data gathering

Analyze TAKS data of those students in the technology rich classrooms.
Look at attendance records of those students
Use surveys. Give online surveys to those students.
Look at the students six weeks grade reports.
T-test
Pre/Post survey

· Draft timeline for completion or implementation of activities
4. 9 months to 1 year.

· Persons responsible for implementation of the action research plan
1. Clayton Claridy and site supervisor Beverly Vance

· Process for monitoring the achievement of goals and objective
· Look at Benchmarks
· 3 week progress reports
· 6 weeks grades

Great advice for teachers

A teacher should never stop learning. "If you are green you are growing, if you are brown you are dying". It is important for teachers too learn how to be action research oriented.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT ACTION RESEARCH AND HOW YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO USE IT.

I have learned that action research is a way to examine certain strategies, ideas, ideals, and techniques in an educational setting. A setting where you can actually see the implementation of a certain strategy. Action research is an ongoing process and as you implement the strategy you can refine the strategy as you need too. For example the training on a day to day basis in a classroom. If a teacher front loads vocabulary words with his or her students with a certain group of students; that is different from others. That teacher can examine the outcome based on test scores of the group that he or she front loaded the vocabulary words. Another example would be a teacher who examines students that come in for tutoring on a regular basis versus students who do not.

Another important factor in conducting action research is bonding and real learning. Working in teams spreads responsibility, encourages creativity, deepens friendships, and builds community among staff. Teachers complement one another. They share insights, propose new approaches, and challenge assumptions. According to the Dana text In an effort to find meaningful professional development activities for their principals, some districts, such as Florida’s Pinellas County, are recreating the bonding that often occurs among classmates at the university within the districts themselves
